Ostuni
2025
Gouache and Acrylics on canvas
120 × 120 cm
We are now moving into the hallway — a space that is both for resting and for moving. It is a portal, a bridge to other places inside the house, and often, to the outer world. Usually, it is not a place where we are meant to linger. But here, I want to create a moment to pause — to breathe, to be attentive, to become aware of yourself and your surroundings.
The sewing machine has walked the fabric like a quiet observer, tracing the streets of Ostuni as if they were paths being rediscovered. Each line stitched into the surface follows the movement of the city —its winding streets, unexpected turns, and pulsing crossings. They form a kind of living network: like tree branches, veins, or neural pathways. Through the stitching, the city is not simply translated — it is reanimated. The act of sewing becomes a choreography of place, one that captures both structure and spirit.
At its center lies a kind of vortex, a gravitational base — the villa itself — around which everything else orbits. This is the starting point of the journey — a place of beauty and calm — but this work invites you to look outward with curiosity, to step into the world beyond its walls, where life unfolds in unexpected ways.
It can be read as a map, but not one that seeks geographical truth. Instead, it highlights that the best things in life often arrive by surprise. From my own experience, whenever I wandered through a city without an exact plan, I found myself far more immersed in my environment — and often met the kindest people along the way, who opened the door to the next story. These encounters shaped the way I understood place — not through precision, but through openness.
This work invites that same sense of gentle exploration. It becomes a guide not for direction, but for presence.
The way is the destination.
